FBR Hub training & development workshop: Finding Funding

Professor Felicity Coleman and Jane Gibb gave an informative and interactive workshop to the FBR hub community, on research funding, covering everything from where to start, internal and external funding provision, the funding process, support available and advice for achieving success. One of the challenges for early career academics is identifying and applying for funding to support research, scholarship and career progression, and the landscape of research funding and the process of writing a high quality bid or grant can be mystifying. This introductory workshop served to demystify the research funding landscape and signpost colleagues to support and information to help kick start or advance their funding journey.

FBR Hub Research Training and Development workshops kick off with Dr Rosy Boardman

Dr Rosy Boardman, Senior Lecturer at Manchester University, kick started our Fashion Business Research Training and Development workshop series with a fantastic talk on Demystifying academic research and building your research network. Drawing from personal experience and advice she’s received from others along the way, she covered the publishing process, writing successful papers, dealing with rejection (on average 95% submissions get rejected) and building your research profile through conferences and networking. She offered some top tips from pitching a paper one level higher than you think it’s worth, citations matter, choosing people to collaborate with to being resilient. The workshop was interactive and developmental, attended by PhD students and research interested and active colleagues, and ended with research drinks and chatter. It was great to get so much positive feedback, summed up by one who said, “how brilliant that FBS are doing these sessions, I can’t wait for the next ones!”. A great start to the workshop series which will build on many of the areas Rosy covered. For more information about the FBR Hub workshops, please see FBS news and sign up to attend using the Eventbrite links.

Towards transformation: Digitalization, Sustainability and Customer Experience, Guest Editor, Journal of Fashion Practice

Delighted that the Special Issue I co-edited for the Fashion Practice will be published next month. It explores the system shifts that the industry has experienced across the fashion value chain, that were explored at the postponed Fashion Marketing Consumption SIG online Colloquium in November 2021. These converged themes centred on digitalization, sustainability and experiences, that sought to challenge existing business models and posit new ways of producing, consuming and experiencing fashion; engendering new paradigms for a positive sustainable future. The special issue presents a collection of six research papers and one practitioner opinion piece. Thank you to Professor Sandy Black for the opportunity and support and to my co-editor, Charlotte Rutter.
